The really telling thing about this whole alleged "hypocrisy" on the part of the GB is that people don't seem to know (or care, more pointedly) about the difference between a religious organization and a Governmental entity, from a biblical standpoint.
It was also funny how this proved to be a soapbaox for ex-jw-turned cult leaders to recruit then-current Witnesses, and to turn them against the organization.
Sad, because many people reacted emotionally and turned against the organization, with little to no facts.

I have found that deceit is in the self. People will find what they're looking for. Likewise, a person that is a truth-seeker will find truth regardless of how they feel about it. They don't accept negative propaganda, but give the benefit of the doubt and view all sides of a matter, not just the narrow view that supports what they want to believe. That is how I have uncovered all the lies of our opposers. You are doing the right thing in seeking the original articles to show him. I have found that all of our apostates, without exception, make themselves liars because they are looking for justification of their choice rather than seeking truth.
