Some claim that Jehovah’s Witness do not do any charitable work in the community. Except for a handful of slip-ups up to 1995, "New light" is a term not generally used in Jehovah's Witness literature since the 1950's, because it is not accurate. The current editing process since the 90's prevents the article writers from making that mistake. However, the source of the term "new light" comes from the common colloquialism "to shed [or cast] new light on" or present something "in a new light". The term currently used in our literature is actually "increased light", in line with the scripture that says, "So we have the prophetic word made more sure, and you are doing well in paying attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place (until day dawns and a daystar rises) in your hearts," and "the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established." Many people, opposers, and especially apostates, like to say, as if it were a bad thing, that Jehovah's Witnesses are "pacifists". The word "pacifist", in Webster's dictionary, is described as someone who is "strongly and actively opposed to conflict and especially war". Under the definition of "pacifism" it says further: " 1 : opposition to war or violence as a means of settling disputes ... 2 : an attitude or policy of nonresistance." Is this true of Jehovah's Witnesses? James Strong, LL.D., S.T.D., compiled the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance. Many have claimed that he was a Mason and that this affects the authenticity of his work. But does it really affect whether his work can be trusted? Many people claim that the house to house work (also called "door to door" because of our canvasing apartments as well) that what Jehovah's Witnesses do is unscriptural, but if you take a look at Luke chapter 10, you will see that the house to house ministry is spelled out quite clearly by Jesus himself.
