Originally posted Saturday, March 26, 5:47 PM. Updated. MOUNT EBAL, ISRAEL. The oldest occurrence of the name of God, in the letters YHWH, appears to have been found that may force archaeologists to accept the existence of the cult of YHWH possibly as far back as less than a century after the Exodus, some time after 1500 B.C.E., nearly 800 years prior to their previous estimates. The 2 cm x 2 cm folded-lead “curse tablet” (or defixio) amulet was found by Dr. Scott Stripling and his team at Joshua's altar on Mount Ebal in a mound of archaeological debris that was originally dry-sifted between 1983-1989. This find confirms Deuteronomy 11:29 which indicates that Mount Ebal is a place of curses. A Times of Israel article by Amanda Borschel-Dan says that Haifa University Prof. Gershon Galil assisted [with Stripling] in deciphering the hidden internal text of the folded lead tablet using [multi-spectral] scans carried out in Prague at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. What "This Generation" Is Not [Opposers Dismythed]

Image
There are many views of what a “generation” is. Thus, the most significant question is why “this generation” spoken of by Jesus Christ as recorded at Matthew 24:34, Mark 13:30 and Luke 21:32 is not one of those many other beliefs? So I have collected them all here for a thorough examination. Source: “This Generation” The reason the discussion of a generation is of prime importance to Christians is because of the following scripture. Jesus said: Matthew 24:34, Mark 13:30 and Luke 21:32 “Truly I say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things happen.” The words “this generation” (or similar) is used in many scriptures, including: Genesis 7:1 Numbers 32:13 Deuteronomy 1:35 Deuteronomy 2:14 Psalm 12:7 Jeremiah 2:31 Jeremiah 7:29 Matthew 11:16 Matthew 12:41, 42 Matthew 23:36 Matthew 24:34 Mark 8:12 Mark 13:30 Luke 7:30-32 Luke 11:31, 32 Luke 11:50, 51 Luke 17:25 Luke 21:32 Heb 3:10 In this video , David Splane of the Governi...

How Do We Know That Paul Wrote Hebrews?

Determining the author of Hebrews is a matter of internal and historical evidence. The book, All Scriptures is Inspired of God and Beneficial (1990), published by Jehovah's Witnesses, says this about the evidence of Paul's authorship of the book of Hebrews: The internal evidence of the book is all in support of Paul’s writership. The writer was in Italy and was associated with Timothy. These facts fit Paul. (Heb. 13:23, 24) Furthermore, the doctrine is typical of Paul, though the arguments are presented from a Jewish viewpoint, designed to appeal to the strictly Hebrew congregation to which the letter was addressed. On this point Clarke’s Commentary, Volume 6, page 681, says concerning Hebrews: “That it was written to Jews, naturally such, the whole structure of the epistle proves. Had it been written to the Gentiles, not one in ten thousand of them could have comprehended the argument, because unacquainted with the Jewish system; the knowledge of which the writer of this ep...

Does James Strong's Affiliation Matter?

James Strong, LL.D., S.T.D., compiled the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance. Many have claimed that he was a Mason and that this affects the authenticity of his work. But does it really affect whether his work can be trusted? No. First, the claim that he was a Mason is an unsubstantiated rumor, possibly spread by someone who wants to advance their own ideas without the blockage caused by a widely respected and accurate work. Who was James Strong? He was born in New York city in 1822 and died in Round Lake, NY in 1894. Dr. Strong was a Methodist. He graduated valedictorian from Wesleyan University (a purely Methodist university) in 1844. In 1856 Wesleyan University granted him the degree of Doctor of Divinity (D.D.). From 1858 until 1861, Strong was both Acting President and Professor of Biblical Literature at Troy University (New York). In 1868 he became Professor of Exegetical Theology at Drew Theological Seminary, where he remained for twenty-seven years. In 1881 Wesleyan honore...
