Avoiding Independent Thinking Is Not Refusing to Think for Oneself

Image
Apostates are always making up lies about the beliefs and practices of Jehovah's Witnesses, especially when it comes to the freedom we enjoy as Christians. Many claim that Jehovah's Witnesses are taught to shun "independent thinking" interpreting this as saying they cannot think for themselves while allowing the Governing Body to do all the thinking for them. It is true that Jehovah's Witnesses are encouraged to avoid independent thinking in their publications from time to time, however, are they encouraged to "not think for themselves"? What does "independent thinking" even mean and what do our publications share on the matter? What Our Publications Really Say This may come as a surprise to you, especially if you have fallen prey to the lies spread about us, but the term "independent thinking" has appeared only 34 times in our publications over the past 60 years. Not frequent at all for an organization that allegedly wants to...

Look Out For: The Deceivers

The claims that the organization is hiding child molestation cases has provided a springboard for many so-called "watchdog" organizations bent upon bringing accusation against the organization for every incident even remotely related to Jehovah's Witnesses, most having nothing to do with the issue of molestation, yet under the guise of serving that issue. Even Jehovah's Witness children who were assaulted by non-Jehovah's Witnesses have not proved free from exploitation by these unscrupulous "watchdogs". I will not be presenting the proof of their misdeeds in this post as I do not want to spread their cancer and this is not a court of law. But I want to show the reader the extent of their lies and how to identify whether the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses is actually at fault or not when they come across such information from these ones. False Claims Made By A Certain Watchdog Organization Every last watchdog organization focused on the c...

Jehovah's Witnesses Have the Freedom to Think — Do You?

Note: The following article is written in a rare second person delivery toward the reader. That is because I wish to directly address individuals from the religions of the world who specifically target Jehovah's Witnesses so that I may rouse their thinking abilities. Do you claim that Jehovah's Witnesses are not allowed to think? That we are instructed to think only thoughts approved by the Watchtower? That is what our detractors like to claim. But does that claim have merit? On what do you base such a claim? Jehovah's Witness Publications Support Free Thinking Consider the fourth study article in the September 2013 Watchtower. Its title is " Make Personal Decisions Wisely ". If someone has been taught by their pastor that we are only allowed to think Watchtower approved thoughts, they would think that an article with this title is telling us what to think. A question like the one in the third paragraph of the article would seem to support that view: ...

Jehovah's Witnesses Encourage Questions and Research [Opposers Dismythed]

Image
Many claim that Jehovah's Witnesses are not allowed to question or do independent research outside the publications of Jehovah's Witnesses. But is this true? Following are statements made in the Bible and in the publication Benefit From Theocratic Ministry School Education that demonstrate that Jehovah's Witnesses are indeed taught to use every tool at their disposal, including questioning others in the congregation and reviewing secular texts. (In fact, all who attend the Theocratic Ministry School are expected to familiarize themselves with the latter book and which we have studied in the meeting. Each member studies the assigned Bible reading and has a chance to discuss portions of the Bible in the school each week and are given opportunities to express their thoughts on those scriptures and their research on them.) Afterward are quotes from other publications that further encourage careful independent research, questioning and using their critical thinking. Beside...
